This week’s Summary
19 January 2025
That was a refreshing week this week .. New students, Test, Mock Test, Dual Carriageways, and a Motorway session.
This week’s weather was OK, but the roads were “challenging”, with us finding many new “features” - mainly potholes. There was a new mini-roundabout built in a crossroads, replacing a set of traffic lights at one end of Pitville Park on Evesham Road. Apparently they are adapting the lights to include pedestrian crossing point, though they will probably be designed for cyclists as well, seeing as it is so close to the new Cycle Route going up to Bishops Cleeve.
We found a pot hole on the southbound M50 motorway, Lane 1, - I need to remember that one for next time we travel that way - I should have remembered the marker post number near it, and recorded it in the SatNav system, so I am reminded each time a approach it.
W’eve been concentrating on looking well ahead, not just ahead, whilst driving, which has revolutionised a student’s confidence, awareness of hazards ahead, as well as the car’s positioning becoming much more stable. Then the following session we started driving on the dual carriageways roads between and around Cheltenham and Gloucester - the new system of looking well ahead making things far easier for the student.
The roundabouts at The Air Balloon junction has changed since I was last up there. The route from the main roundabout eastwards, towards Oxford, has been “adapted” with cones, which means everyone needs to be travelling slower (= safer), and then the two mini roundabouts at the top of Leckhampton hill have been merged into one larger one.
This coming week, I’m looking forward to meeting a couple of new students, and continuing to work with existing ones. I have some plans for the sessions, but I’m looking for the students to bring ideas with them.
Stay Safe!!
