Basic Routines to remember and use

These are routines which could help you sort out a problem without panicking.


Moving Off, Steering safely, and stopping safely

Start the car
Handbrake on
gear selector in Park
engine on


Prepare the car
Use the footbrake                        
Select Drive with the gear selector
 

Observe
left blind spot to right blind-spot, checking the mirrors on the way 
is it safe?
do I need to signal


Move the car
handbrake off                         
a little more gas
steer gently right
steer gently left
steer straight
check the main mirror 


Stop the car 
Find somewhere safe to stop                
main mirror                                           
left mirror
Signal left ?
Brake gently?
steer gently left                                    
steer gently right
steer straight
gently brake
stop the car
feet still
handbrake on
feet still
select Neutral, or Park
cancel the signal
Is it still a safe place to stop?
